Soul Breathing

Soul breathing exercises are useful tools for transforming stuck belief structures in the soul. The first set (Spirit Biography) addresses issues in your past that have served to form beliefs in the present. These forces in your life constitute your spirit biography. They are impulses only dimly sensed by you but that form an energetic platform for your beliefs and actions. The second set (Present Biography) addresses issues in the present that continue to aggravate or irritate you. This is your present biography. The goal is to see how your spirit biography and your present biography are linked.

Spirit Biography

Bring to mind the image of a loved one who has departed. Set yourself to wondering about what they are doing now in the place where they are existing. This should be done just as if they were alive. In this exercise we are wondering about the spiritual biography and evolution of their I Am. They in turn can inform us about the life lessons to be learned across the threshold of death. Our wondering about their ongoing spiritual biography creates forces of wonder in our souls that engender trust in the processes of life.

Imagine a situation in which you were involved in a strong trial. Then imagine the good things that have come about as a result of being tested during the strong trial. See if you can feel awe at the wisdom of the cosmos which provided the trial which was just what was needed to get you to move in a particular direction. See if you can recall hearing of a similar trial in the life of a departed loved one. Ask them how they faced the trial and what were the lessons which they learned from it.

Recall someone who is departed who provided an example of forgiveness for another during their life on earth. Select a situation in your life now where someone has done something to you about which you still feel soul sore. Ask the departed to show you how to turn your soul towards forgiveness for the misdeed. Your feeling of harmony for the departed and the way in which they are membered into the world soul allows them to participate in your soul life in a creative and productive way. The feeling of harmony for them eventually can be transferred to another person whom we are struggling to understand.

Present Biography

Pick someone in your present life for whom you have the feeling that the way that they act in a certain situation makes you upset and confused. The idea is that you wonder in yourself “How can they do that? How can they be like that?” Try to imagine that you are leaving your own body and walking and gesturing the way the other person does when they are doing the activity that causes you to be upset. You may want to actually move your hands the way they do when speaking, for instance. Then imaginatively dissolve the movements of the hands that they make while speaking and reduce your inner dialogue to silence. Repeat this activity daily until sooner or later their soul configuration appears in your imagination simply as a gesture or intention towards activity without the movement of the hands to make the intention manifest. This exercise puts you into the mood of the karmic relationship between your self and another person.

Now take the same person and situation as the object of the next exercise. Imagine that the thought pattern of the other person could be a geometric drawing. When they answer a question would it look like a spiral or a square or a set of interlocking rectangles? Would their thinking process look like a jagged point or a set of curved lines? Would it look like interlocking triangles or more like a river delta of flowing and branching lines. Try to imagine the pattern of thought of the person during the times when their thinking is upsetting to you. Then think the pattern away systematically. That is, if a triangle is drawn with one side first then the second and the third, when you dissolve it imagine it disappearing in the reverse order in which it was drawn. Being the emptied imagination into complete silence. This allows you to breathe into the thought processes of the other person without forming strong responses and judgments.

Then take the same person and situation as in the preceding exercises. Imagine that you can see the feelings of the other person as some kind of animal or plant or even a cloud or weather event. Then imagine your mood when you encounter the other person in this situation and try to picture that image as an an animal or plant or weather event. This puts your soul and their soul on an equal level so that a healing feeling can arise.

This meditative tool is valuable for overcoming anxiety. But we could ask, what does it mean to will my thinking? In everyday life my thoughts flit…
